Ukraine appeal aid as live music proves a hit

- LYNN DUKE

The return of live music to Comrie is proving popular – with the next performance lined-up for this month selling out early.

The Old Blind Dogs are scheduled to play the White Church on March 26, and promoter Chris Grace – of Chris’s Gigs – has had to create a waiting list for those keen to get their hands on any hot tickets that are returned.

The first concert to kick-off the new season was with Hamish Napier, who was joined by Patsy Reid and Innes Watson.

The trio were performing tunes from the trad composer’s awardwinning new album ‘The Woods’ and the intimate gathering in Comrie’s Rural Hall was not only enjoyed by the audience but the musicians as well.

Afterwards Hamish said: “What a night in Comrie.

“We loved this gig. The best craic, hosts, fine dining and gorgeous home accommodation, great sound engineer and a warm, welcoming audience.

“And there was a special surprise when Su-a Lee joined us on stage to play the saw!

“I can honestly say that this was one of the loveliest gigs of my life. Thanks to Chris’s Gigs for making this happen.”

The gig also raised £ 160 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal.

And there are more concerts to come, with Amy Papiransky and Dáimh on the agenda for April and May.

Chris said: “Thanks to all who came along to Hamish Napier’s beautiful concert at the Rural Hall.

“It was a very special event and so many people have been in touch saying how much they enjoyed it.

“On Saturday, April 23, we are thrilled to announce that Amy Papiransky will be performing for us along with Angus Lyon in the Rural Hall, and on Saturday, May 21, we are very excited to welcome Highland supergroup Dàimh to the White Church.

“The Old Blind Dogs and Dáimh gigs are being supported in part by the Touring Network and we are very grateful for their support.

“This is to help build audience confidence by limiting the numbers while making sure the musicians are paid properly.

“Covid is still very much making its presence felt and we wish to do everything we can to help the audience feel as safe as possible.”
