Grants to assist with heating

-

An organisation which supports people in Scottish agriculture is gearing up for an unprecedented increase in demand for grants it offers designed to help people pay their heating bills.

RSABI has already given meanstested grants of over £ 25,000 since April 2021 as part of its Help for Heating scheme to people across the country struggling to heat their homes.

With energy costs set to increase dramatically from next month, a spokesperson said spending on these grants has trebled in the last month and RSABI is preparing to respond to a steady increase in demand for the grants.

Chris McVey, RSABI’s welfare manager, said he was keen to raise awareness of the heating support RSABI is offering.

“Many people in the agricultural community are set to face significant increases in their energy costs from April and we know there is real concern,” said Mr McVey.

“Older rural properties can often be harder to heat compared with more modern homes, with stone walls and single glazed windows,” he added.

Typically, RSABI offers grants worth around £300 to help people who are eligible pay for heating.

However, higher value grants are also being offered depending on the different circumstances.

“If you’re worried about how you’re going to manage increasing energy bills or are already struggling to stay warm in your home please don’t hesitate to contact us,” added Mr McVey.

“All support is provided in complete confidence, and as well as financial assistance there may be other ways we can help – for example by putting you in touch with other organisations who can assist with energy efficiency measures.”
