Juniors got off to a flyer but Letham ultimately too strong
Crieff Juniors FC’s 2008 team gave a good account of themselves but ultimately lost Sunday’s Mac Brown Cup final 4-2 to Letham Sky Blues.
Crieff made a stunning start at Dundee’s North End Park, taking a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Alex Bruce and Lewis Reilly.
Perth side Letham grew into the game and they pulled a goal back in the 21st minute when their striker tucked away a rebound after a good save by Crieff keeper Finn Duguid.
The Fair City side equalised shortly before half-time to make it 2-2 at the break.
The second half was only 30 seconds old when Letham capitalised on a mix-up in the Crieff defence to take the lead for the first time.
Play then swung from end to end until Letham got the killer fourth with 10 minutes remaining.
Coach Scott Brown said: “After a perfect start, the team will be bitterly disappointed with their performance. We just stopped doing the basics and were punished for it.
“We can now concentrate on our remaining four league games, with promotion still in our hands.”
Sponsors Crieff Financial and Mortgage Centre Ltd and Scott Cramb Construction were thanked for their support, as were the team at the Handy Shop in Crieff – which donated bananas for the team.
The Steading in Crieff was praised for its hospitality when the team visited for breakfast and lunch on the day.
Scott added:“Finally, thank you to the CJFC committee who made it a special day for the team by laying on a Docherty’s bus and treating the team to lunch.”
