ARCHERS ARE RIGHT ON TARGET

Members of all ages turn out for Crieff club’s first indoor comp since Covid

- SPORTS REPORTER

Crieff Archery Club held its first indoor competition since 2019 at Strathearn Community Campus on Saturday.

A good selection of archers shot in various categories, with the majority contesting a Portsmouth round – which sees 60 arrows shot at a 60cm target from 20 yards.

Novice junior members aimed at a 122cm target.

Only three points separated the top two bows in the gents’ recurve category, with Kevin Wilson’s total of 561 ultimately taking top honours.

Allan McDougall once again matched the compound Portsmouth record of 555 set by Alex Cargill, while Derek Cargill became the club’s first winner of the new Perfect 60 badge after a close best gold recurve win secured by half an arrow diameter landing inside the X10 central ring.

There was further success for Christina Wright, who set a new U10 girls’ record with an impressive score of 461.

Four archers also shot better than their handicap – Cameron Cargill, Lynsey Wright, Daniel Postma and Frances Carnie.

A club spokesperson said: “A high degree of skill was displayed by all archers, particularly the novices – which is a credit to the coaching team and supporters. Many thanks to Lady Paramount Ali Inger,

who awarded the prizes, and Range Captain Alex Cargill.”

Crieff Archery Club moves to its outdoor venue at Crieff and Strathearn RFC’s Braidhaugh home from the end of April.

The spokesperson continued: “This will be a good opportunity to try a new sport, which is suitable for all the family and all ages too – our youngest member is six years old and our oldest is over 70!

“Come along for lots of fun and healthy outdoor exercise.”
