Band’s members appeal
This evening is completely free, and no prior experience is required
Jim Wishart, band manager
The Strath’s brass band, Brass Central, is looking forward to some local engagements this year.
And the committee is hoping to recruit more junior members to join its ranks.
An open evening is being held on April 28.
Band manager Jim Wishart told the Herald: “During the Covid period the band lost some young players to other commitments and to this end we wish to start recruiting again.
“We are holding a ‘come and try’ night on Thursday, April 28, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. This is open to youngsters aged nine years and upwards.
“On the night we will have members and our musical director Tom Smith
on hand to talk to you and let you try an instrument.”
Jim asked that potential new members contact him at brasscentralstrathearn@ gmail.com or 07738274197 so relevant instruments can be made available for trying out.
He added: “This evening is completely free, and no prior experience is required.”
Brass Central has already given its instruments an airing this year.
Jim said: “During March the band took part in the Scottish Brass Band Association Entertainment Contest held in Perth Concert Hall.
“The remarks from the adjudicator John Boax were encouraging and positive and at some point during the year he will be paying us a visit.
“Also, in March we held our AGM, the first in two years due to Covid 19 with a good attendance of members. There were a few changes to our committee.
“The new chairperson is Graham Martin, and his wife Jayne has joined the committee also. We also appointed a new child protection officer, Helen Barr.”
The rest of the committee comprises of Jim, treasurer Carol Lang, Helen Barr, Shona Douglas, Hugh Grierson, Gemma
Lang, Lorna Stewart, Elizabeth Philip and Jacob Lang, representing the junior members.
The band’s musical director is Tom Smith.
And the band has a few engagements in its calendar in the coming months, such as Dunning Fete in June as well as an appearance in MacRosty Park bandstand in the same month, and a return to Drummond Castle Gardens Open Day in August.
