Debut gig supports Ukraine

An entertaini­ng gig in Comrie has raised more than £850 for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitari­an Appeal.

New local band Lowrider enjoyed a spell in the spotlight in the village’s WRI Hall, supported by Mhor 84 and local DJs Scratch and Sniff – otherwise known as Sam Walker and Lincoln Allsop.

Based in Comrie and Crieff, Lowrider formed in 2021 and feature Ross Sorley on vocals, Ewan Cameron on guitar, Danny Gilbert on trumpet, Daire Moffat on keyboard, Helen McCrorie on bass and Marc Derollo on drums.

Their repertoire includes hits across a broad range of genres spanning the 1960s to the‘90s, including tracks from the likes of David Bowie, Primal Scream, The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads.

The charity night was Lowrider’s first gig and bassist Helen thanked all those who contribute­d to an evening which raised £854 for the DEC’s appeal in total.

She said:“Thanks to Mhor 84, who kindly stepped in for John Paul Mason – who was recovering from illness – plus local DJs Scratch and Sniff, who had everyone grooving on the dancefloor until midnight.

“Thanks also to Hansen’s Kitchen for donating cider, to Sam Walker for making cocktails and to the WRI for supporting the charity event.”
