Friendship and Sing-a-long fun
Meet old pals and new as sessions return
An uplifting Strath group is set to make a welcome return next month.
The team behind Comrie Sing- a- long recent l y announced that sessions are due to resume from 2pm on Wednesday, May 11.
The popular musical gettogether was founded by retired minister Jim Lawson and retired district nurse Mairi Philp, who originally set up the monthly singing group for those living with dementia in the area.
However, the sessions, which take place in Comrie Parish Church, proved so popular they have become open to anyone who loves to sing, regardless of their ability.
Everyone is welcome to join in with the wellknown songs and the Singa-long songbook is always expanding.
Plus, there’s the added bonus of a cuppa and cakes at the sessions.
Mairi said: “We hope to welcome back our old friends and also invite new friends who would like to join us.
“Our songbooks are full of favourite, well- known songs – but you don’t have to be able to sing – people can just come along, listen to the music, then enjoy their afternoon tea and chat to old and new friends.”
Mairi continued by saying that anticipation was building ahead of the group’s first session since restrictions were introduced in response to the global coronavirus pandemic two years ago.
She told the Herald: “There is no charge for Singa-long but any donations will be gratefully received.
“We are all so thrilled and excited to start singing again after two years and look forward to seeing everyone there.”
Mairi went on to explain: “There is plenty of parking at the church, disabled access and the use of a wheelchair.
“Transport can be arranged in Comrie.
“If anyone would like to come and help us set up and serve afternoon tea please phone me or just come along on May 11.”
