Project offers help to get bikes on go again

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

Strath residents have again been encouraged to get in the saddle and keep active with help from a project designed to give anyone looking to get their cycling back into gear the necessary pedal power.

Backed by the Sc o t t i s h Government, the Scottish Cycle Repair Scheme offers grants of up to £50 toward the cost of repairing bikes.

Redeemable at local bike workshops, the money can be put towards the labour and parts required to get people moving again and is open to everyone on a first come, first served basis.

Comrie Croft Bikes is one of the participating outlets locally.

Manager Colin McPha i l emphasised the potential benefits of people making use of the scheme in order to get out and about to enjoy the area’s renowned scenery.

He said: “It’s great to see the return of this remarkably good initiative.

“It’s designed to encourage anyone who has a bike that needs a bit of time spending on it to get it out of storage, get it safety checked and repaired, and get ready for summer.

“The £50 limit is a great help, a decent service and a few small parts can usually be covered – or may only require a small top-up – and your bike is ready to go.

“Our expert qualified mechanics will make sure you are getting a professional analysis and repairs.”

Colin continued: “Biking is so good for your physical and mental health, it’s good for the environment and is a great way to spend your exercise time.

“It’s a great way to get around and explore the local area, and we are very lucky here to have such a good network of quiet roads and tracks to experience the beauty of Strathearn.”

Keen cyclist Colin added: “The scheme is really straightforward.

“There’s no voucher to apply for – just bring the bikes to us and we will assess what needs doing and get it in the workshop.

“We’re delighted to be part of it.” The Scottish Cycle Repair Scheme runs until the end of May this year.

Comrie Croft Bikes recommends getting in touch soon to ensure bikes can be looked at during the scheme’s funding period.
