Accident awareness

-

Strath residents have been invited to learn about ways to prevent accidents through two free online seminars.

The neighbourly service Perth and Kinross Community Watch has flagged up two online event dates, put on by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents ( RoSPA), in May that could appeal to anyone seeking better awareness of simple ways to stay out of harm’s way.

The short, free, awareness-raising sessions will highlight some basic information on keeping children and older people safe at home.

‘Child safety in the home’ is on May 17, at 10am. ‘Fall Fighters’ is on May 18, 10am.

Latest figures show that nearly 1300 people died in accidents in the home in one year.

The most vulnerable age groups involved are children under the age of five and people over the age of 65.

On average, a further 50 people accidentally drown per year in Scotland’s waters.

A RoSPA spokesperson added: “There is so much that all of us can do to help our family, friends and neighbours live safer and happier lives.

“Most accidents can be prevented with some basic knowledge, planning and forethought.”
