SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL, CRIEFF

-

Members of SI Crieff had the pleasure of meeting Mhairi McNeill and hearing her talk about Remake Scotland, the Crieff-based charity.

Mhairi has been the Reuse Hub coordinator for the past three years, having previously worked in retail and in documentary film-making for the BBC.

The charity has recently received a grant of nearly £140,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund, and Mhairi told those gathered about how this is going to be used for the expansion of Remake’s activities and premises.

She explained how Remake is a valuable local resource, providing a second hand store, tool library, furniture store, extensive textile and crafting supplies, and even has four marquees available for local groups and individuals to hire.

An important part of the group’s mission is the young adult employability programme, through which youngsters can volunteer and gain skills to improve their job and education prospects.

Mhairi’s enthusiasm for her work at Remake was really infectious and left those at the meeting wanting to make more of the great community resource, and perhaps even to join the ranks of their many volunteers.

After the talk, Mary Henderson was presented with her certificate for 30 years of membership of Soroptimist International Crieff.

Club meetings will resume in September after the summer recess.
