Get tuned in for Finlay the Piper’s grand mystery tour

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

A Strath teenager is clocking up the miles in a bid to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

Crieff High School pupil Finlay Taylor (15) is a talented piper and has decided to play traditional tunes at 12 mystery locations over a 12-week period in the hope of generating much-needed funds for Alzheimer Scotland.

Local places visited so far include Monzie Castle near Crieff, Culdees Castle Estate near Muthill, the Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace and the Land Rover Experience near Dunkeld.

Further afield, Finlay’s busy summer has also seen him visit Lochore Meadows in Fife, The Kelpies near Falkirk and even Times Square in New York during a recent holiday.

Each location is revealed online via the kind-hearted youngster’s‘Finlay The Piper’ Facebook page.

Just over £800 of an initial £1000 target has already been raised and Finlay is inviting people to make suggestions as to where he should pipe in the coming weeks.

Explaining the poignant reasons behind the fundraiser, Finlay – who is a member of Vale of Atholl Pipe Band – said:“I would like to raise £1000 for this great charity.

“My papa passed away with Alzheimer’s. My great-granny passed away with dementia. My great-grandfather has dementia. My mum’s friend’s father has Alzheimer’s – everyone can relate to or knows someone who has or had dementia. It’s an awful disease.

“I will‘go live’every week at a new destination.

“Anyone who would like to vote for a place for me to pipe at can send a message to my ‘Finlay The Piper’Facebook page.

“That’s where they will find out where I am piping each week.”
