Murder Mystery to delight Fortnight

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

Talented members of Comrie Drama Group will present ‘Clue’ as part of this year’s ongoing Comrie Fortnight.

Directed by Jenny Robb and written by Jonathan Lynn, performances will take place from 7.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week in the village’s White Church.

The production is based on the on the world-famous Cluedo board game devised by Waddington’s – an intriguing Murder Mystery which has now also been made into a film.

A Comrie Drama Club spokesperson said: “This is a play that promises a nostalgic look back with typical Comrie Drama Club slapstick fun for all the family.

“This is more than just a game – this is a ‘whodunnit?’ with ‘what?’ and ‘where?’; will you have the cleverness to work out the clues, or will you let the rest of us solve the mystery?”

Explaining the premise, the group’s representative continued: “When Wadsworth the butler, ably assisted by Yvette the French maid and the frightening cook, welcome the guests to Boddy Manor, nobody could have guessed what was about to unravel – murder, mystery and mayhem.

“The guests are all given pseudonyms for the evening – Colonel Mustard, a rather pompous, dense blowhard of a military man; Mrs Peacock, a church-going wife of a member of parliament, slightly batty and neurotic; Mrs White, a tragic, morbid, dark personality; Professor Plum, full of his own self-importance; Mr Green, a rather timid and anxious character and, lastly, the delectable and sardonic Miss Scarlet.

“In typical Murder Mystery style, the scene is set on a dark and stormy night, with thunder, lightning, torrential rain and dogs howling in the background, not unlike an ordinary summer evening in Comrie.

“As the music builds and doors creak, Wadsworth the butler prepares the Manor House for a night that guests will never forget – that is, of course, if they survive!

“This hilarious spoof of a thriller will keep you guessing right up to the final curtain as both audience and characters on stage try to work out who did what, with what, and where.”

Tickets, priced at £10, are available from the Comrie Fortnight box office or the website www.citizenticket.com.

Meanwhile, a whole host of events are taking place in the village and the surrounding area as the Fortnight is now in full swing.
