Hospital is big winner at charity poker day

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

A massive charity poker day raised £ 6130 for Cornhill McMillan Centre at Perth Royal Infirmary recently.

The ‘All in for Sharon-2’ event took place at Almond Valley Bowling Club on October 28 where 60 players took part.

Chris Lyons took the trophy home and earned his spot on the All in for Sharon shield.

The Pitcairngreen Inn, St Johnstone Social Club, Methven Post Office and Lochty Tyres were among the supporters of the event, which was started in dedication to local cancer fighter Sharon Eadie.

Organisers also helped raise £ 5587 last year for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer

Foundation.

Tournament organiser Lewis Philips said: “For a group of lads just trying to raise some money for charity, we didn’t do badly. Sixty players turned up for an amazing day of fundraising and a massive poker tournament.

“The final count has been done and the final figure of this year’s event is £6100, for the Cornhill McMillan Centre.

“In only our second year of organising this event, we have raised a whopping £11,687 for charities.

“A big thank you to the bowling club for giving us the venue to play in, to DPS Group for being the day’s main sponsor.

He added: “A big thank you to the players who travel from far and wide to come and play in the tournament.”

Lewis went on to thank all those who

helped to make the event possible.

“We will enjoy the winter season and get planning ‘All In For Sharon 3’ in the new year,” he concluded.

Fellow tournament organiser Jake Eadie Snr, and husband to Sharon, said: “Sharon and I would gratefully like to thank everyone that got involved with the ‘All in for Sharon’ poker day and anyone that contributed in any way possible.

“We handed over a total of £6130 to

the MacMillan Perth Support Group (Cornhill).

“The event itself organised by Chris Eadie, Jake Eadie, Lewis Philips, Daniel Myles, Patrick McNamara and many family and friends on the day was such a humbling experience for us, with the turnout and the generosity of you all again.

“The team at Cornhill are amazed at the amount you have all generously raised and were also provided with a new air fryer from Sharon, knowing the nurses there regularly work 12-hour shifts and wished they had one ... now they do.”

“Thanks to each and every one of you.”
