Amazon’s latest Alexa vessel won’t let you out of its sight… ● Swivel service

If you’ve had Alexa living with you for a while you’ll know she’s always listening… but pick up an Amazon Echo Show 10 and she’ll always be watching too. Its 10.1in 1280x800 display and 13MP cam are mounted on a swivelling speaker – with two 1in tweeters and a 3in woofer – so when you summon her she’ll turn to face you like the obedient robot she is. You’ll feel like a god… and will also be able to wander about during video calls and always stay in the frame.

Having a built-in rotating camera also means the Echo Show 10 can double as a particularly effective security guard. Using the Alexa app, you can log in to the device from anywhere with an internet connection and check that all’s quiet on the living-room front, while it should also serve as an excellent control centre for any other camera-equipped security devices or smart home kit you’ve got installed thanks to its built-in Zigbee hub. And don’t worry – if you fancy a bit of privacy from time to time, there’s a button on top to mute the microphones and cover the camera.

Of course, you can use that big screen for more fun stuff too. Amazon has finally added Netflix support alongside Prime Video to all of its smart displays, but only the Echo Show 10 will automatically swivel to make sure you don’t miss a second of Schitt’s Creek even when you have to go to the opposite side of the kitchen to drain the spuds (not a euphemism). That’s not forgetting all the usual timers, calendar reminders, shopping lists and other day-to-day tasks that an Echo makes easy. So, Amazon, when are you going to make one with legs?
