His Dark Materials

The Beeb’s solid adaptation of Philip Pullman’s gloomy children’s novels continues with the second season of His Dark Materials. Pullman’s books always felt like a more worldly counterpoint to the blithe straight-bat fantasy of the Harry Potter series, and the BBC’S screen version captures their grim, mature nature well.
