Philips OLED+935

Modest size, immodest brilliance

-

from £1800 / stuff.tv/oled935

■ this set also comes in 55in and 65in variants, Philips has joined a limited number of brands to offer a smaller 48in OLED for those who like to leave space in their living room for other stuff, like windows. Seen dead-on it’s pretty much all screen, with a staggeringly slim bezel holding the panel in place. The bespoke Bowers & Wilkins soundbar also functions as a stand.

■ This is a 4K OLED TV with every HDR base covered, from HLG to HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, further aided by four-sided Ambilight giving off its trademark wall-glow. The whole show is run by Philips’ P5 processing engine with AI and machine learning to improve picture balance and upscaling accuracy.

■ The palette is vibrant but never lurid: big colours are strong and assertive, but subtle nuances are described with just as much positivity. It isn’t the brightest OLED around, but white tones are kept so clean that peak brightness is hardly an issue. Get deep into the menus and it’s possible to strike a balance between smooth motion, strong edge-definition and high detail levels. TV nirvana, in other words.

■ There’s no other telly on the market with an integrated audio system that sounds as wide, as accurate, as focused or as dynamic as this one. The world isn’t short of soundbars with this sort of power and scale, but they’re all pretty expensive – and none will integrate with your TV this smoothly.
