£115 / underarmour.co.uk

Designed for wet winter runs, these shoes laugh in the face of puddles, keeping your feet dry without ignoring breathability, while the 8mm drop and generous cushioning offer enough bounce to keep you moving. So far, so-so – but hidden in the heel is a chip that measures over 400 data points every second to help analyse your cadence, stride length, ground contact time and foot strike angle, as well as distance and time.

All this data is automatically uploaded to Mapmyrun, a fitness platform that used to be brilliant… before, let’s be honest, Under Armour bought it and everyone jumped ship to Strava. Even so, it’s still a solid app with plenty of third-party compatibility, and the shoes’ additional metrics and real-time running analysis available through headphones will really help novice runners begin to fine-tune their technique. Stuff says ★★★★✩ A splish-splash dash with dry feet and tons of data make these a winter winner
