ALIENS: FIRETEAM
PC, PS5, PS4, XSX, XB1
Few games have the ‘honour’ of being remembered as such a disappointment as Aliens: Colonial Marines, so another outing with sci-fi’s ultimate military bad-asses might not be on most people’s minds. Think again, however, as this debut from Cold Iron Studios transforms the Aliens licence into a co-op third-person survival shooter in a similar vein to Left 4 Dead.
Set after the original film trilogy, Fireteam sees the Colonial Marines dispatched to remote space colonies to clean out the remaining xenomorph threat. For the four scenarios in the game, you’ll be working in a team of three, either with other online players or with two Ai-controlled team members in single-player.
These marines have their own unique classes, from the turret-spawning Technician to the heavy-duty Demolisher. You’ll need to make use of their special abilities if you’re to survive against the aliens,
of which there are around 20 types, from face-huggers to acid-spitters.
Aliens: Fireteam is out this summer, which means it will be in direct competition with Left 4 Dead’s own spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. Aliens versus zombies, if you will.… which should mean that, whoever wins, so do the gamers.
