Nest Cam (Battery)

-

Google also has a new battery-powered Nest Cam, which is designed to be used either indoors or out, with a magnetic mounting plate making it easy to adjust and remove for charging.

Its 2MP camera shoots 1080p video, which is clear enough for an overview of an area, but some of the competition can record significantly sharper footage. The 130° field of view means you can see everything at a glance, but when we pinch to zoom in it pulls up less detail than our (much cheaper) wired Mi Home Security Camera.

Google claims the Nest Cam’s battery can last up to seven months, but if it sees a lot of movement then even much more than a week will be a stretch. Ours was in a relatively busy room and we checked into it a couple of times a day during testing; the result was that it seldom lasted eight days before needing a recharge.

The magnets mean that’s easy to do but, as with the Doorbell, do also make the Nest Cam quite easy to steal if you decide to install it outside.

Stuff says HHHH✩ Great-looking hardware that’s a breeze to use but could be a little too much of a breeze to pinch
