LOOK ’EM IN THE EYE

Sony’s autofocus is excellent, and that’s in part down to its smart eye-tracking, which works for both humans and animals across photos and video. To use it, on the fourth page of the first set of options in settings, navigate to Face/eye Priority in AF. Turn it on, choose either Human or Animal, then left or right eye. Note that you’ll need to turn off Product Showcase first.
