The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience
£free / PS5, XSX The Matrix films don’t have a great record of being converted to games, but don’t worry, because The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience isn’t a game as such.
After a photo-realistic intro featuring a CGI Keanu Reeves and Carrie-anne Moss, it dumps you into a short on-rails shootout before letting you explore a city that looks and feels more real than anything seen on the next-gen consoles so far. Alright, you can’t do much more than run or drive around – but with 35,000 pedestrians, 7000 buildings, 260km of roads and 38,146 drivable cars, there’s plenty of fun to be had crashing into stuff and admiring how realistic the damage is.
From a graphics point of view it’s a sign of things to come – and one that might well leave you very excited for the future.
