YAMAHA SOUNDBARS: SMALL BUT MIGHTY

Grab one of these compact, affordable bars and give your TV a boost

-

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a television’s built-in speakers are toilet.

Thin, reedy sound lacking in bass and body? We’ll pass, thanks… but how do you upgrade your telly’s wimpy audio without investing in a hulking, ugly and expensive speaker array?

You buy a soundbar, that’s how. And if you want one that’s discreet, easy to set up and affordable as well as sonically gifted, why not opt for the Yamaha SR-C20A or SR-B20A?

Both bars have touch-sensitive controls and a dedicated remote but can also be controlled by an Android or IOS device running Yamaha’s Sound Bar Remote app. The app is the simplest way to switch sound modes and inputs and use Clear Voice, 3D Surround and Bass Extension options (as well as controlling the volume, obviously). Both models also feature HDMI with ARC, two digital optical inputs and wireless playback via Bluetooth 5.0.

Yamaha SR-C20A

At just 60cm across, the C20A is tiny by soundbar standards – and ideal if you want to boost your TV’S sound in the most low-key manner possible. If you’re a PC user, it’s small and slim enough to fit under your desktop monitor too.

But this speaker doesn’t skimp on audio oomph. Sound comes courtesy of two full-range drivers with 20W of Class D amplification apiece, plus a 60W upward-firing sub and two passive radiators (one facing up, one down) to bring the low-end rumble, with a virtual surround sound effect supplied by Yamaha’s virtual sound modes.

Yamaha SR-B20A

The SR-B20A offers a lot of the same features and functions in a slightly larger (91cm) package. Here there’s room for a bit more power on the audio front, though: the front-facing drivers each have 30W of Class D amplification, the built-in subwoofer has an extra cone and there are two tweeter domes for added treble sweetness. The B20A also has an output for an external subwoofer.
