GHOSTWIRE: TOKYO
PS5, PC
A strange fog sweeps through Tokyo, leaving one of the busiest cities in the world totally deserted. While that might sound like a scene from the pandemic, here the people aren’t locked down indoors: they’ve all been spirited away, leaving just their clothes behind. And in their place are menacing spirits, some of whom take on an uncanny human form – including a lady wielding a worryingly large pair of scissors.
Ghostwire: Tokyo may sound spooky but this isn’t a horror game where you’ll be cowering behind your controller. The protagonist
Akito seems like a normal guy but he finds himself wielding paranormal powers, from harnessing the wind to calling a spirit to help him grapple up to high places. And you’ll need these abilities to take on your supernatural foes.
The game’s first-person perspective means it feels extra-immersive seeing these powers course from your immaculately animated hands. Even better is the prospect of exploring an open-world Tokyo, which includes landmarks like the Shibuya Crossing and Tokyo Tower, bathed in an eternal neon glow.
It’s out on 25 March – and you’re definitely going to want to play this with ray-tracing turned on.
