Empty plastic food containers (eg for salsa dips) Plastic cups Scalpel Fine paintbrush Sandpaper Rustoleum gold painter’s touch paint, £2, B&Q
Cut the orange juice carton in half so you have a tall oblong shape. Mix the cement in a bucket according to the instructions (no need to add sand). Make sure it is well mixed to avoid any lumps. Pour the mixture into the orange juice carton and any plastic containers, filling to about 3/4 full. Place a plastic cup in the centre and push down. Hold in place by weighing it down with a handful of coins. Leave to set thoroughly overnight. Once dry, use a scalpel to cut away the containers surrounding the cement and remove the plastic cups from the centres. Smooth any sharp edges with fine sandpaper and wipe away any dust. Use gold paint and a fine paintbrush to add on metallic designs of your choice; we used masking tape to create these geometric shapes. Leave the paint to dry. Marble cheeseboard, £20, John Lewis.
