Upcycle an unwanted pallet into a quirky focal point

Sandpaper Paper Nails Brass picture pins, £1.50 for 10, Hobbycraft

1 Using a vertical strut of the pallet as the central point, draw diagonal lines down the pallet to form the sides of the tree. Cut along these lines using an electric jigsaw (or hand saw) and remove the excess wood. Sand down any rough edges with sandpaper. 2 Draw a star shape onto a piece of paper and use this as a template to cut it from a piece of wood. Nail the star to the top of the tree and attach picture pins to the wooden tree, from which you can hang decorations. Make sure you use picture pins with raised heads to stop the decorations from sliding off.
