Do it! Space-saving Solutions
Try to allow some space for shelving in an island for storing recipe books and cookware. A built-in wine rack is another great idea – Betsy adapted hers to fit larger bottles of drinks.
If you’re planning an extension and wall space is likely to be limited, consider installing skylights. These are also a good idea if your extension will look out onto a dark space at the side of the house.
Building appliances into the cabinetry creates a seamless look and eliminates wasted space above or below. Fit them at eye level for easy access when taking things in and out of the oven.
If you don’t have enough room for a dining table, think about going for a bigger island so you can use part of it as a breakfast bar.
