ABOUT ME I’m Claire Ward, 44, a hairdresser, and I live with my son, Tom, 19, and daughter, Millie, 15.

MY HOME A 1900s three-bedroom terrace in a village near Durham, which I bought in 2004.

WHEN I BOUGHT IT It had a dark wood kitchen, gas fire with an Adam-style plaster fire surround, dark painted doors and skirtings, navy blue floral carpet and an avocado bathroom suite.

AND NOW It’s light and bright with bifold doors in the kitchen/dining area, stone flooring and carpets, a smart bathroom and log burner.

STYLE TIP Keep a neutral scheme throughout with splashes of pattern and texture, then add pops of colour through plants.
