RE-WORK YOUR WOOD

Repurpose any wood from home renovation projects – old boards can become worktops and shelves or panelling and doors can double up as tabletops. Ask local builders if they have any unwanted timber or try reclamation yards.

HANG MIRRORS

Make a long, narrow hall appear bigger and brighter by hanging a large mirror. A group of mirrors in a stairwell or landing will bounce light around. Above a fireplace, try a round or oval mirror so the curves break up the straight lines, and position it low enough for a connection with the mantelpiece.

DISPLAY KNICK-KNACKS

Create a mini vignette of favourite things on a shelf or flat surface. Choose objects in a similar colour or finish so they work together and go for a variety of shapes and sizes in an odd number. Start from the back, working towards the front, and have one or two taller pieces to add height.
