Swap a desk for a shelf unit such as the Ekby Alex shelf from Ikea, which also includes a couple of drawers to stash work stuff.

Make one piece of furniture work harder – a dressing table in the bedroom can double up as a desk space. Keep paperwork in a box to limit clutter.

Make use of dead spaces such as on the landing, under the stairs or even in a built-in wardrobe!

Look out for ladder-style desks that can be propped up against the wall and offer extra shelving.
