TRY YOUR HAND AT… BARGELLO
Retro needlepoint tapestry method Bargello is, like many traditional crafts, making a huge comeback! Its name originates from samples found at the Bargello palace in Florence, Italy, and refers to the distinctive flame-stitch pattern now synonymous with the technique. Offset vertical stitches are used to create geometric repeats using wool on canvas, usually in vibrant colours. Bargello was commonly found on soft furnishings, such as cushions, in the 1960s, but modern makers are now showcasing these patterns on everything from planters to wall hangings. Kits are a great way to get started.
