You can buy sheets of V-grooved MDF panels online.

Before painting your chosen colour, apply two to three coats of primer. MDF is a very porous material, so you will not get a clean, even painted finish unless the surface is very well primed in advance.

The cut areas of MDF are especially porous, so it is important to seal properly.

Lightly sand between coats for a smooth finish – remember to wear a mask while sanding.

Add a shelf to the top of the panelled zone for a particularly pretty result and you will have a useful display area.
