CONCRETEEFFECT MANTEL
1 Mask off the area around the edges of your wooden surround; protect the hearth with plastic sheeting, and cover the floor or carpet with dust sheets. 2 Ensure the wood is clean and fill any holes or cracks with wood filler, then give the surround a light sand to get rid of any paint or varnish, and wipe down with a soft, damp cloth.
3
Apply two coats of primer to the wood, allowing each coat to dry. 4 Stir your stone-effect paint then apply a thin layer; leave to dry. 5 Add another two coats to build up the layers, leaving to dry in between, and finally stipple your final layer with the paintbrush to get rid of any brush marks.
