ABOUT ME I’m Hanna Nipala, 38, a business manager, and I live here with my husband Timo, 36, a product manager, and our four children. I share our renovation story on Instagram @nipalanipanat.

MY HOME We’ve lived in this detached three-bedroom 1940s house in Turku, Finland, since 2011.

WHEN WE MOVED IN There was only one useable floor, but we could see the potential of the roomy attic and the basement.

AND NOW We’ve gone for natural materials and a palette of white and grey plus lots of wood, texture and flea-market finds to add character.

STYLE TIP In a family with children, you should choose high-quality materials as much as possible. They should wear beautifully, and this can only add to their character.
