MAKE USE OF ALCOVES

An alcove can be a great spot for a desk, with shelves above. Painting the walls behind in a contrast colour will zone the space.

A popular solution is bespoke cabinets below with floating shelves above. This enables you to hide away more utilitarian items and display your prettier pieces.

In a kitchen, an alcove is the ideal place to create a larder unit. After you’ve done a big shop, measure cereal boxes, bottles and jars to make sure there’s a space for everything. Herb racks can be attached to the inside of doors.

Space for taller items, such as ironing boards and mops, is often overlooked. Consider a cupboard with tall double doors below and smaller doors above for items that are used less often.
