YARN-WRAPPED CANDY CANES

-

YOU WILL NEED Macramé string Narrow wire Tape Scissors Yarn Needle

1 Cut five 30cm lengths of macramé string and two pieces of wire slightly shorter. Tightly tape your string and wire together, roughly 5cm from each end.

2 Take one end of the yarn and lay it alongside the string bundle. Holding it all between your thumb and fingers, start to carefully wrap the yarn around the string, making sure to catch your yarn end with it.

3 Keep wrapping towards the other end of the string. You might find it easier turning it around the other way once you reach halfway. After 20cm, trim the yarn and sew it back through the wrapped wool using a needle. Trim the yarn close to the string along with the wire using a sharp pair of scissors.

4 To create the candy stripe, knot two pieces of cream wool to one end of your wrapped string bundle. Sew the shorter ends back through and trim off. Carefully wrap the two strands of yarn around the string bundle. Try to keep the yarn flat and not twisted, and keep the spacing even as you wrap around. Once you reach the end, tie off the ends as before.

5 Once you’re happy with your wrapped bundle, bend the top over to create your candy cane shape. Trim the macramé string that’s showing to 1.5cm and comb to make fluffy ends.
