Add a sunny colour pop shelf

Utilise wall space by extending the mantel to reach the width of the room, then inject a vibrant block of colour by painting the shelf the same colour as the wall below. Wood panelling adds to the cosy country cabin feel and the zesty yellow walls teamed with a relaxed denim sofa bring a contemporary edge.

corkboard panel fixed above a chest is a clever way to hang jewellery. Loop necklaces over pins, while earrings can be pushed straight into the cork.

CREATE A VANITY STYLINGSTATION

Use a contrasting paint to create a headboard in your bedroom, by painting a large rectangle on the wall behind your bed. In lieu of a picture rail, paint a band of colour 20cm down from the ceiling, to create the feeling of modern grandeur.

Double up on storage space

Make the most of the space either side of a bathroom vanity unit by adding two tall cabinets. Not only will they frame it nicely, but they will provide plenty of storage. These cabinets started life as bookcases, but have been given a smart lick of paint and ribbed glass film too.

CREATE ROOM FEATURES WITH PAINT

Bubble candle holder, £13, Sass & Belle

In a box room, make a feature of a high shelf on decorative brackets, with grab-handle baskets that fit flush to the ceiling, for storage that doesn’t intrude too much into the space.
