by an interior designer friend, Mairead Hayden who worked with Helen Leask at Leask Architecture. Her design really appealed to my aesthetic and as I didn’t have the time to take on somewhere that needed lots of work, it was literally perfect for me.
Well proportioned
The apartment, with its open-plan living and kitchen area, one double bedroom and a bathroom, was compact, but it had good proportions and the big Georgian windows flooded the rooms with light. The front door opened into a small hallway with the shower room straight ahead, the bedroom to the left and a large open-plan living area and kitchen to the right. It had such a nice welcoming feel when I first walked in, I instantly felt relaxed. All the electrics and plumbing had just been replaced, a new bathroom fitted, the original windows repointed, walls replastered, and a bespoke wooden kitchen made and fitted by a friend and local carpenter Stuart Brotchie, so I was able to focus on the cosmetic changes.

Adding drama
I really liked the way Mairead had decorated the apartment, painting the lower half of the walls in a darker colour to the top. Historically a dado rail would have indicated the separation of colour, but instead she used masking tape to achieve a crisp, sharp finish and I love the modern twist this has added.
