Use... outdoor mirrors
Reflective and ornamental, a well-placed mirror can do wonders to enhance any garden space
DOUBLE YOUR SPACE An outdoor mirror will make your garden look bigger than it really is and trick the eye into thinking it goes on and on (right). You can create your own by using an old gate or some painted trellis mounted onto a piece of mirrored board.
OPT FOR FLEXIBILITY Window-style mirrors with shutters are great if you want to be able to control the sun’s glare while working outside (above). If the sun gets too bright or direct, you can close the shutters, opening them again when it has moved later in the day.
PAINT YOUR FRAME Make your garden mirror feel like part of the decor by painting the frame in the same shade as the fence you are hanging it on. Matching the colours allows the mirror itself to be the focal point, rather than the frame.
BOOST YOUR PLANTS Disguise an unsightly garden wall with vertical planting. Elevate this look further by placing mirrors behind them to make more of a feature of the pots and plants. Gothic-style window mirrors will create a mysterious yet magical feel.
