PAINT SKIRTING BOARDS LIKE A PRO

-

1 Using masking tape, stick down the edge of newspaper or sheeting as close to the skirting boards as possible so there is no gap between the floor and the board. This avoids any drips or slips damaging your flooring. 2 For old, previously painted boards, make sure any holes or dents are filled, dust and dirt is removed, then give them a light sand and a wipe down with a damp cloth. 3 Next, apply decorators’ tape along the base of the wall, where it meets the top of the skirting to ensure a crisp, clean line and prevent paint getting on the walls. 4 For new, unpainted boards, using a primer will give a better finish, although some paints have it built in. If not, apply primer with a good quality brush, leave to dry, give a light sand, then wipe. Follow with a second coat. Before starting with the first layer of chosen paint, give it a light sand and wipe again. 5 Apply at least two coats of your chosen colour, sanding and cleaning in between each coat. Once dry, carefully remove the tape.
