Get to work on your WORKSPACE

Six ways to create a beautifully organised zone, whether you have a smart home office or just a small corner of a room

-

Office in a bedroom

Choose a desk that doubles as a bedside table. For a bedroom that is also used a workspace, a ladder desk is the ideal solution, combining storage and shelves with a desktop at a height that’s perfect for a bedside lamp and alarm clock too. Give it a twist Add a table top mirror to turn your weekly office space into a weekend vanity area!

Ombré shelving

Paint ombré stripes between floating shelves (on which the brackets are hidden). A soft plaster pink tone above the skirting board, blending into deeper hues delineated by the shelves, creates a pleasing focal point in your office space. Give it a twist Alternate two tones of bold colour to create a striped wall feature between the shelves.

Fabric noticeboard

Cover an old canvas in fabric to make a practical and decorative noticeboard. Secure it to the back of the frame using a staple gun and attach trimmings in bands to clip postcards and little keepsakes to. Give it a twist For a traditional look, criss-cross the trimmings and secure at the Xs with upholstery pins.

Cork strip

Cork creates a stylish memo strip, and if clad over a whole wall, it will absorb sound for a more peaceful study. For extra noticeboard space mount clipboards above your desk. Give it a twist Cover the clipboards with wallpaper offcuts and paint the cork strip to match the wall to co-ordinate with your decor.

Alcove with curtain

Hang shelves in an alcove behind a linen curtain, which will act as a stylish screen once work is done. Add a small stool or pouffe that can be stowed under the desk or used as extra seating in the room. Give it a twist Have doors custom made to hide the zone and paint them to create a seamless look.

Panelling with shelves

Adding lipped brass shelves to painted panelling will showcase your design brochures and books in a much more creative way than simply showing their spines. For further visual impact, paint bold geometric shapes on the wall and intersect them with the shelves. Give it a twist Replace books and brochures with framed artwork.
