When using the shower, the curtain must be inside the bath to stop water splashing onto the floor. Once it’s dry, you can move it to the outside if you prefer that look.
Another option is to look for a shower curtain with a lining that can hang inside the bath, while the outer layer can still look great and keep dry. Alternatively, layer a simple white one with a beautiful design – the plain one for water protection and the outer one to give the look an edge.
Are they hygienic?
Yes, so long as you take care of them! Over time, they can look less pristine, thanks to a build-up of soap scum and mildew. But they can be washed – in fact most can go in the washing machine, but do check the care label first.
Can I use one with a freestanding tub?
An oval shower curtain rail is perfect for a freestanding bath. Team a pair of long, white shower curtains with traditional shower fittings and a clawfoot bathtub if you’re after an authentic period look.
What colours and patterns work best?
If you have a monochrome scheme, a simple white shower curtain keeps the look fresh and clean. However, If your taste is bolder, choose a lively accent colour or a tropical print to give a sense of the outdoors and boost mood.
What can I use instead?
If you have a shower tray rather than a bath and a curtain doesn’t appeal, the best option is a shower screen. They are much more expensive, but they will make your bathroom feel bigger and brighter.
