Paul Daniels calls Debbie with whistle And she likes it... though not a lot!

- By Jon Coates Haldane’s View

MAGICIAN Paul Daniels uses a high-pitched whistle to summon his wife Debbie Mcgee.

The entertainer, 73, uses the call to cut through crowds of people and let her know he needs her. He says it immediately gains the attention of the former ballet dancer, who assists him with his stage show, and brings her running.

Daniels, who will celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary next year, decided to adopt the whistle call with his wife’s agreement.

He said: “Debbie knew I could do a very high-pitched whistle that seems to cut through ambient noise, so when I need to catch her attention, even at social occasions or especially when I don’t know where she is, she picks it up.” Daniels was glad to get back on tour after twice needing hospital treatment this year.

He sawed off the tip of his ring finger and his left index finger with a circular saw in a DIY accident at his home in Wargrave, Berkshire, on New Year’s Day. Doctors managed to reattach the index finger.

“It’s a strange feeling when you see your fingers hanging off,” he said. “It had nothing to do with illusions, it was merely a workshop tool I was using.”

After recovering he was then doubled up with stomach pain and admitted to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, where he had a gall bladder operation.

Debbie, 53, said: “It was very frightening, I was so worried about him.”
