£7.50 to own a bit of comic Les

- By Jon Coates

FANS of comedy legend Les Dawson should bring their cheque book to a sale of his treasured belongings.

The star’s furniture and possessions have stayed in his £1million mansion in Lytham, Lanchashire, since he died from a heart attack in 1993, aged 62.

Now the house has been sold to a former nightclub owner and its contents have been cleared out for a giant sale at a warehouse in Blackpool, giving fans of the stand-up comic the chance to own their own piece of history.

Among the possessions being sold are former Blankety Blank host Dawson’s grand and frilly pink bed, chairs, mirrors, vases, ornaments and art.

Some ornaments are priced at as little as £7.50 each, but the sale also includes an Italian table and six chairs for £3,150, and Italian console and mirror for £850. Artwork includes paintings by LS Lowry and former armed robber Larry Rushton.

The comic’s flamboyant personality is reflected in the bright colours and baroque design throughout his home.

The house has been sold by trustees acting for Dawson’s estate. His widow Tracy and daughter Charlotte, who was one when he died, have moved out.

A spokesman for Febland Warehouse said: “Les’s house has been sold and we have been entrusted with the sale of the beloved contents. We are sure everyone would like a little piece of Les.” The comedian famous for one-liners would probably have approved of the sale, as he once wisecracked: “I used to sell furniture for a living. The trouble was, it was my own.”
