Jokey Harry set to win his spurs as jungle king

- By Ed Gleave

HARRY REDKNAPP is on course to be crowned King of the Jungle after winning over campmates – and the nation.

The ex-Spurs manager, 71, has become one of the most popular stars in I’m A Celebrity history. Bookies Coral has Harry as red-hot favourite to win at 6/5.

Harry has impressed the ITV show’s millions of viewers with his bravery and jokey comments.

Last night viewers cringed as he and “Emperor” Noel Edmonds, 69, battled through a stomachchurning challenge to win a whopping 11 stars to bag food for hungry fellow contestants. The pair held critters, such as beach worms, witchety grubs and giant cockroaches, in their mouths and had to eat a sheep brain and squeeze fish eyes in their mouths.

Harry bravely said beforehand: “We’ve got to get some food for the gang. We can’t leave them to get no food tonight,” adding: “I’ve got to do it. I’ve got the grandkids watching. I can’t let them down.”

Noel told hosts Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby before eating brain: “I’m trying to engage in what I call corneal realignment protocol, C-R-A-P for short. You visualise something other than what you’re looking at, so I’m seeing a very large walnut that will be chewy,” adding, “Any condiments?’”

A show source said: “This Bush- tucker Trial is everything you want – epic, funny and you could say the most testing trial in I’m A Celeb history. Harry and Noel gave an epic performance and aced the task.” It meant the group enjoyed a slap-up meal of crocodile meat.

Harry has also impressed viewers with his gentlemanly behaviour at the jungle shower. When Rita Simons and Fleur East asked him to join them he didn’t peek, afterwards saying: “There’s only one person I want to see in a bikini having a shower and that’s my wife.”

Harry has struck up a friendship with Noel. They worked closely as Emperor and Adviser as part of last week’s Rome-themed task.

Harry told him: “The first day or so I was sitting thinking... ‘I don’t know if I want to be here’. And then you turned up and I never stopped laughing. It’s been great.”

Noel said: “Harry, can I just give you a hug and say, ‘ Mate, it’s been great’.”

Other campmates are also big fans of Harry. John Barrowman said: “He’s just a good guy, good laugh and all round good person.” Emily Atack said: “Noel and Harry have been the most hilarious duo.”

I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! tonight, ITV, 9pm.
