Love and marriage for tattooed Bond?
WHEN Daniel Craig starts work early next year on what will be his final James Bond film, there are whispers the script will call for the spy to metamorphose from seasoned seducer to happily married man. According to a plot leak, the new film sees Bond quitting as 007 to marry Dr Madeleine Swann (played by Léa Seydoux). But his domestic bliss is short-lived after his wife is killed, and he rejoins M16 to avenge her death (a story not dissimilar to the 1969 Bond caper On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, starring George Lazenby and Diana Rigg).
If this is indeed the plot, female fans can presume they will be treated to topless shots of Daniel on his brief honeymoon. And, as in previous films, he will have to rely on the make-up department to ensure the three tattoos on his body are covered up. He has steadfastly refused to reveal what these embellishments represent.
Happily Craig’s wife Rachel Weisz is more open about her own bodily decoration; a tattoo of a ladder on her hip, which she had done when she was a student at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
“It isn’t, like, a ladder to my nether regions,” she laughs. “It represents this avantgarde theatre troupe I used to belong to. I thought it was really cool and radical. It’s still something I’m extremely proud of.”
Miss Weisz, 48, whose father was an inventor from Hungary, approves of tattoos but draws the line at Botox, a treatment of which she sniffs disparagingly: “It should be banned for actors, like steroids are for sportsmen.
“Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”
