Christmas with Meghan? I’ll be alone on the beach
THE Duchess of Sussex’s father is preparing to spend Christmas Day alone as his daughter celebrates her first festive season with the Royal Family at Sandringham.
Thomas Markle will be on the beach and enjoying a few beers at a bar near his home in Mexico, just over 5,450 miles from the pomp and pageantry of the Queen’s Norfolk residence.
He and Meghan, 37, who is expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry, have been estranged since Mr Markle sold staged photographs of himself in a bid to garner favourable publicity.
He pulled out of walking Meghan down the aisle in May after suffering a heart attack. It is now reported that Meghan will invite her mother Doria Ragland to Sandringham.
Mr Markle, 74, revealed his festive plans to a close friend, who said: “Thomas thinks he will enjoy a walk on the beach and maybe have a couple of beers at his local bar.” He is likely to spend most of the time at his modest hilltop home in the ramshackle seaside town of San Antonio Del Mar. The friend added: “Of course he’d love to spend Christmas with family, especially his daughter. But he understands that it hasn’t worked out that way.
“She doesn’t communicate with him and most of his other relatives are all at war with her and one another.
“He thinks it’s sad. But he’s not going to be crying into his beer. He says he’s used to being alone and he’s just happy that his daughter is living an incredible new life.”
The pal said Mr Markle “longs to reconnect” with Meghan but added: “There’s no way he will interfere in her life if she doesn’t want him in it.
“He would love to see her again and of course, meet his grandchild. But if that’s not to be it’s not to be.
“He wants to put an end to the bickering and wishes it would all go away, but it won’t.”
