Dyche: Axe hangs over us all

- By Steve Millar By Tony Banks

SEAN DYCHE is in the middle of a footballing nightmare – with Burnley in the Premier League basement.

With just 12 points on the board, the Burnley boss is second favourite behind Leicester’s Claude Puel to get sacked after six years of devoted service.

And he admitted: “Like anyone, you know when you’re doing the right things. You’re working hard. You’re doing all those things – and don’t forget I still need to be a dad, a husband and get on with my life. You’ve got to be careful because football can wrap you up in knots.”

Dyche admitted WEST HAM may be in ninth place in the Premier League on the back of a run of five wins in six games – but Manuel Pellegrini is demanding more.

The Chilean’s quiet revolution at the London Stadium has seen the pre-season after Burnley’s magnificent seventh-place finish last season that he wasn’t sack-proof despite the solid backing of the board. And he’s not daft enough to think he’s going to be in the Turf Moor hot-seat forever. He added: “It’s highly unlikely you keep achieving.

“I’ve had six and odd years of mostly getting it right and that’s a hell of a period. I’m only saying my day will come, good or bad.

“I get that people will question me. The league table is a fact. So I understand why questions are being asked.” Hammers recover from a horrific start to the season of four straight defeats. They face struggling Burnley at Turf Moor today in confident mood.

But former Real Madrid and Manchester City manager Pellegrini is not satisfied.

He said: “We must be very clear that we must improve. Because for me to be ninth is not good. We have to continue to prove we are a big club.”
