Christians suffer Islamist genocide

- By Ruth Hughes

BRITAIN must protect persecuted Christians in Nigeria by halting £900,000 a day in foreign aid to the country, says cross-party peer and human rights campaigner Baroness Caroline Cox.

The UK government is ignoring genocide and must withhold aid in a bid to force the Nigerian government to take action, warns Baroness Cox.

Accounts of Islamist Fulani herdsmen raping and slaughtering Christians and driving them off their homeland were shared with Baroness Cox during a recent visit.

The Fulani militants are the fourth deadliest terror group in the world, with only Boko Haram, Islamic State and Al Shabab worse, according to the Global Terrorism Index. Many of their attacks are reported to begin with shouts of Allahu Akbar (God is great). Baroness Cox was also told that Nigerian military helicopters have been dropping arms and other supplies into the areas inhabited by the Fulani.

It is claimed the Nigerian government failed to act despite being aware of Fulani militant training camps. Villagers say they cannot defend themselves as their weapons were confiscated.

Baroness Cox, founder of Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust, said: “This year, in northern and central-belt states, reliable sources report that over 6,000 civilians have been killed by Fulani militants. Almost two million have been displaced by jihadist attacks.”
