To back a new party

-

hold at the moment because we need to resolve Brexit.

“There is only so much bandwidth for politics in the news and if we tried to launch now we would find it hard to set the news agenda.

“But after the end of March things are close to happening. There are a lot of MPs like Chris [Leslie] and Gavin [Shuker] who probably have nothing to lose because they won’t be allowed to run by the Momentum lot at the next election.”

There has been speculation in Westminster that the People’s Vote campaign for a second referendum on Brexit is also being used to collect the data a new party would need and is a platform for future members of one to work together. The Conservatives last night said that the demand for such a launch from Labour supporters reflected anger over Jeremy Corbyn’s hard-Left policies.

A senior Tory source said: “To see the total capture of the Labour Party by Jeremy Corbyn and his Marxist cronies is enough to make anyone weep.

“This once great party has been reduced to a breeding ground for bullies and antiSemitism making it a party which shames the nation.”

The source added: “It is also not surprising that the number of Labour voters wanting it [a new party] is high when you see how many Labour MPs seem determined to betray Brexit.”
