France ignoring its duty

Once again the French are treating the British people with contempt, this time regarding the illegal immigrants regularly setting sail from France to cross the Channel (“French arrest eight Iranians with a boat – and let them go”, January 6)

The French have done everything they can to derail the Brexit talks and are now disregarding their duty to stop immigrants leaving their country by sea for Great Britain.

The French idea appears to be that Britain, through the Border Force at sea, will be a taxi pick-up service to all who set sail to these shores.

All immigrants picked up at sea by anybody must and should be returned to France where they departed from.

In so returning everybody they will become discouraged from attempting crossing the Channel again. Peter Roulston, Loughborough, Leicestershire
